On Sunday, August 4, 2024, the church is open for its Annual Service at 3:00 p.m., followed by an informal reception hosted by the German Protestant Society Auxiliary. Rev. Nancy Duncan of the Broad Bay Congregational United Church of Christ of Waldoboro will officiate this year's service.
The Old German Church was built in 1772, and is a well preserved 18th century church overseen by the Trustees of the German Protestant Society. The church played an important role in the lives of the area's early German immigrants, and in the establishment of the town of Waldoboro. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
The Old German Church is located at 235 Bremen Road (State Route 32), in Waldoboro, Maine.
The church is now maintained as a local memorial by the German Protestant Society. This lovely spot on the side of the hill with the simple yellow church and its burial ground speak eloquently of the past. The meetinghouse is quiet — peaceful with a strength and dignity derived from those who hewed its beams from the neighboring forests.
